Big Game Recaps and Previews – March 4th

Hey guys, sorry I’m late! I was out of town this weekend and just got back. I went to a party with one of those cool ice sculptures last night!

Georgia 49 – #1 Kentucky 79

Well, I was right about this game being a blowout. Darius Miller led the team in scoring with 17 points on his senior night. Not going to waste any more time recapping this game, thanks for putting up with my homerism!

Clippers 78 – Suns 81

Steve Nash played 34 minutes in this game and made one shot from the floor. He had 6 assists and 7 turnovers too. Jumbo still thinks he’s the best PG in the league.

#6 North Carolina 88 – #3 Duke 70

Maybe North Carolina finally remembered they are one of the two most talented teams in the country. I didn’t get to watch the game, so I can’t comment much on how both teams looked, but an 18 point win at Cameron Indoor is impressive even with Duke struggling at home this year. Kendall Marshall scored 20 points and if he can consistently put the ball in the basketball UNC could certainly find it’s way to New Orleans next month. The Heels are now in the driver’s seat of earning a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, something everyone expected before they sleep walked through much of the season.

Knicks 111 – Celtics 115 (OT)

Jeremy Lin didn’t play well, but Carmelo had his back. Anthony scored 6 points in the final two minutes to force OT, but it was all Celtics in the final frame. The big story in this game was Rajon Rondo’s dominance. Rondo put up an incredible and historic performance with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 20 assists. Those numbers are insane. Did I mention Jumbo thinks Steve Nash is the best PG in the league? He also played some really good defense on Lin, adding to the young star’s troubles. I still don’t consider the Celtics a legit title contender, but this is a smart and experienced club that still has their pride. If you beat them, they are definitely going to make you earn it.

Mavericks at Thunder (8:00 NBA TV): This could very well be a Western Conference Final preview. The matchup everyone wants to see is Durant vs. Dirk and it should be quite the scoring clinic now that Dirk has found his stroke. Dallas has been streaky this season and is currently 22-16 (5-5 in their last ten), good for 6th in the conference. Meanwhile the Thunder are the top team out West with a 29-8 record.

See ya Tuesday!
