Going to do this a little different today since all of the big conference tournaments are either already under way or starting today. It’s all College Basketball all the time for the rest of the week, so I apologize to our NBA fans. I’ll make it up to you next week, I promise.
Big East Tournament
Don’t look now, but UCONN is trying to do it again. After beating DePaul in the 1st round, the Huskies knocked out West Virginia yesterday. Today they have the unenviable task of taking on Syracuse. Good luck guys.
Louisville got past Seton Hall and will face Marquette, Georgetown beat Pittsburgh to face Cincinnati and South Florida cruised past Villanova and will play Notre Dame.
I like Louisville, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Syracuse to advance today.
Update: Syracuse takes care of UConn 60-55.
Update 2: Cincy takes out Georgetown in a 2 OT classic, 72-70.
Update 3: Louisville defeats Marquette 84-71.
Big 12 Tournament
Texas A&M and Oklahoma State Advanced to the 2nd round and will now face Kansas and Missouri respectively. Baylor plays Kansas St and Iowa State gets Texas in the other two games today.
Kansas, Missouri, K-State and Iowa State advance to Friday.
Update: Baylor beats K-State 82-74.
Update 2: Kansas takes care of Texas A&M 83-66.
Update 3: Missouri beat Oklahoma State 88-70.
Starts today and Charlie has you covered.
Update: Maryland easily handles Wake Forest 82-80.
Update 2: NC State coasts past BC 78-57.
Update 3: Virgina Tech defeats Clem(p)son 68-63.
Update: LSU beats Arkansas 70-54.
Update 2: Alabama escapes South Carolina 63-57.
Update 3: Ole Miss defeats Auburn 68-54.
Big 10 Tournament
The Big 10 is the top ranked conference in both RPI and Pomeroy ranking this year. The conference is deep and I could see 6 or 7 different teams winning this thing. Of course Michigan St, Ohio St and Michigan are the favorites but Indiana has shown a knack for big games and Purdue is playing good basketball right now too. Don’t sleep on Wisconsin either. The Badgers can play with anyone in this league and usually perform well in March. As much as Big 10 basketball usually bores me, I think this year’s tournamanet is going to be interesting.
I’ll take Michigan State to win it all. There is none better than Tom Izzo in March.
Update: Iowa beats Illinois 64-61.
Update 2: Indiana beats Penn St 75-58 but senior Verdell Jones had to be helped off the floor.
Update 3: Minnesota defeats Northwestern 75-68. Wildcats likely miss the NCAA now.
Enjoy the madness today and the rest of the weekend. I’ll try and update this post as games go final.
