Just hours before the start of today’s Goody’s Fast Relief 500 in Martinsville, lawyers representing DeLana Harvick served divorce papers to Kevin. Normally the impending divorce of a professional athlete would not count as news but legal experts believe this divorce could have a huge impact on Harvick’s racing career. Prior to their 2001 wedding Kevin and DeLana Harvick signed a pre-nuptial agreement that included a provision that in case of a divorce DeLana Harvick would have the exclusive right to be the only Harvick to wear a fire suit. This is where the problem lies. Drivers are currently required by NASCAR rules to wear a fire suit when racing. If Kevin Karvick is not legally able to wear a fire suit then he can’t race in NASCAR without it. Lawyers for Kevin Harvick have already said they will dispute the validity of the pre-nup on the grounds that Kevin was forced to sign it under the fear of violence by a fire suit wearing DeLana.
