Timothy Bradley beat Manny Pacquiao in a very questionable split decision last night to win the WBO welterweight title. Pacquiao was robbed by the only 2 people who thought Bradley won, judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford. Pacquiao landed more punches and controlled the fight for all 12 rounds but he lost the fight and he has no one to blame but himself. But he was robbed you say. How can he be to blame? If you park your car in a bad neighborhood and leave your windows open with your laptop on the front seat and someone jacks it then you are to blame. Pacquiao left his windows open.
Manny Pacquiao may have landed more punches but he let Bradley control the first minute of each round. Bradley threw more punches and was the aggressor. He pushed, chased and harassed Pacquiao all over the ring. Boxing judges like that. If a fight goes to the cards then the aggressor will get the favorable decision more times than not. Was it the wrong decision? Yes, but it is what it is.
Pacquiao’s camp either let him receive the fight from Bradley by not telling him to attack or couldn’t get him to be aggressive. I don’t know. All I know is that if you let the fight go to the scorecards then you are giving the aggressive fighter an advantage.
After watching the fight a couple of times I still have it 9-3 in favor of Pacquiao and that will not change because Pacquiao was never not in control of the fight but Bradley was clearly more aggressive and that had to be what the 2 judges that had the fight in his favor were scoring.
The only other excuse is that David Stern is now involved in boxing.
The rematch should be on Nov. 10th. Let’s hope Pacquiao creates the pace instead of just riding it.
