2012 U.S. Open Day 2 Breakdown and Day 3 Preview

Can Tiger get #15?

The Olympic Club has broken many this week already.  Some of the best players in the world are going to be watching the final round from the friendly confines of their living room.  The bombers and the wild shot makers have been shut down by this course.  Can they give the trophy to the golf course?

Sitting out front at -1 are 2 former major winners and the greatest golfer ever.  Jim Furyk (03 US Open), David Toms (01 PGA) and Tiger Woods (14) all have the patience and smarts to know that this course will bury the guys who are trying to beat it.  The only way you can finish the week as the U.S. Open Champ at The Olympic Club is to just survive.  Take the pars it gives and don’t chase the birdies.  The birdies will come but the bogeys will also so don’t let the swings get you.  That’s how you do it.

Quick Thoughts

There are 28 players within 5 strokes of the lead or in the lead and 7 of them are former major winners.  The winner of this tournament will not be a first time major winner.

17-year-old Beau Hossler briefly lead yesterday and is sitting at +3 but the best part of him getting to the lead was we were introduced to his mom.

The first 6 holes are living up to its rep and are giving everyone trouble.

This course will only get firmer and that sets up very well for Woods who will continue to hit irons off the tee.

Toms has the game to win his 1st U.S. Open.

Day 3 Leaders…  Tiger Woods and David Toms at -2
