Webb Simpson took some time off from being a financial advising firm to win the 2012 U.S. Open at The Olympic Club. After starting the day 4 shots behind Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell, Simpson shot a 2 under 68 to win his first major in only his 5th try.
McDowell and Furyk were looking for their 2nd career majors but neither of them could hit the shots down the stretch to do it.
The day belongs to Webb Simpson. The Raleigh, NC native and Wake Forest All-American is one of the hot young players on the tour. He will be 5th in the world come Monday and is playing better than anyone the past year (3 wins). His game sets up very well for the Kiawah Island Ocean Course, the home of the 2012 PGA Championship. He may not win another but at least he brought the U.S. Open trophy back to the states.
