Handicapping Week 1

What a great time of year! Everyone’s team is going to go 13-3, everyone’s fantasy team is stacked, and best of all everyones online accounts are full. My job here is to keep it that way. Each week I’m going to give you my top 5 picks and my keys to each decision.

With kickoff just hours away, here we go!

Buffalo Bills +3 vs. New York Jets

Even the head coach didn’t want him.

When I first glanced at the lines for the week I fully expected this game to be Buffalo -7 , so to actually get a field goal excites me.

Key to this game:

Buffalo’s new D against the Jets anemic offense. It took over 200 minutes for the J-E-T-S offense to score a TD in the preseason and it took the third string QB to do it. I expect New York to score 14 or less points and I have full confidence that the Bills can score 17.

Take the 3 points and run.

Chicago Bears vs. Indianapolis Colts Total 42

Best NFL twitter follow of all time. (@JimIrsay)

Key to this game:

Two very good quarterbacks against suspect defenses. Chicago is getting older on the defensive side of the ball, and no defense really hits in the preseason. I think both offenses will score early and often and maybe even sprinkle in a special teams touchdown.

Take the OVER

Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals Total 41

If he only had a QB.

Key to this game:

Two bad offenses vs two underrated defenses. Arizona’s defense is average, but Seattle’s defense has a chance to be really good. They have a very physical and big secondary. With Lynch possibly not playing and the top receiving option on the Seahawks being Braylon Edwards, I think this game ends 17-10.

Take the UNDER

New England Patriots -5.5 vs. Tennessee Titans

The fantasy TE to own in New England this year.

Key to this game:

Tom Brady has his full compliment of weapons and somehow added another in Brandon Lloyd. Locker is entering his first season as the starter and won’t have his top receiver threat in Kenny Britt. I almost chose the over in this game (47) but decided instead that the Pats would win by double digits and thought they were the safer bet.

Take the Patriots and give the 5.5

Dallas Cowboys +3.5 vs. New York Giants

The Dez Bryant rules. (See what I did there?)

Key to this game:

The Cowboys hate the Giants, no news there, but now they’ve had to listen to how great the Giants are and how Dallas’ window is closing. The matchup to watch is the Dallas wideouts versus the Giants secondary. The Giants have lost both starting corners for at least this week and I’m looking for a bit of a Super Bowl hangover.

Take the Cowboys and the 3.5
