TSD College Football Primer: Week 9

We get 4 of the top 5 teams facing ranked teams this weekend and a few other nice ranked matchups.  Is Notre Dame a contender for the BCS title or a pretender who is about to be discovered?  How will Bama perform in their first test of the season?  I can’t wait to find out.

Last Week:  7-2 (36-40, 47%)

Last Week Picks That Made Me Look Smart:

I picked the K-State upset on the road over WVU and said that if UNC keeps Duke in the game they will pay for it.

Last Week Pick That Made Me Look Bad:

NONE!  I picked the winner in all 9 games and missed the spread in only 2.  Close wins by Michigan and Notre Dame kept me from being perfect.

Friday 10/26/12

Cincinnati at #16 Louisville (-4.5) 8pm ESPN2

Coming off their first loss of the season, I think the Bearcats will give Louisville their first loss.  Louisville has built their 7-0 record on the backs of a weak schedule and the Bearcats will be their first test.

Saturday 10/27/12

NC State at UNC (-8) 12:30pm CBS/ESPN Gameplan

There are only 2 teams in the ACC that control their own BCS bowl destiny, NC State and Duke.  Duke will have its hands full at FSU, but NC State has a great chance at representing the ACC Atlantic in the ACC Championship if they get by UNC.  I think they will keep Bernard in check and give Glennon a chance to score points.

Duke at #11 Florida State (-27.5) 3:30pm ESPNU

You don’t have to be a history major to know that Duke has been owned by the Seminoles (0-17) in this series, but the Blue Devils have been shaking history all year.  Do I think that Duke will beat FSU?  Not at all, but they don’t have to for me to win this bet.  The loss of Chris Thompson keeps it closer than 4 TDs.

#3 Florida (-6.5) at #12 Georgia 3:30pm CBS

The Gators are on a crash course with the winner next week’s Alabama/LSU game and I don’t see the Bulldogs slowing them down.  The Gators offense has its problems, but the defense is among the nation’s best.  Turnovers will bring points and Florida will win big.

#15 Texas Tech at #4 Kansas State (-7.5) 3:30pm FOX

Tommy Tuberville has a history of breaking down Heisman hopefuls and his D will try to do the same to Collin Klein that it did to Geno Smith.  I don’t see the Raiders slowing down the Wildcats and the Wildcats will put up some numbers on TT.  Big win by K-State will keep them in the BCS title talks.

#9 Ohio State (-2.5) at Penn State 5:30pm ESPN

The Banned Bowl!  The undefeated Buckeyes go to Happy Valley to face a surprising Penn State team and the winner will be the Leaders Division leader.  Braxton Miller has been cleared to play, but the key will be if the OSU defense can keep up with the Penn State offense.  I think that PSU holds and gives the Buckeyes their first loss of the year.

#5 Notre Dame at #8 Oklahoma (-10.5) 8pm ABC

Is Notre Dame a “for real” BCS contender?  We are about to find out.  The Irish travel to Norman and are not getting much love from the odds makers.  I love their defense and I think that they can keep the Sooner offense in control, but if the Irish offense can’t score, this game will could get out of hand.  Irish keep it close.

#13 Mississippi State at #1 Alabama (-24.5) 8:30pm ESPN

If this was MSU vs. Oregon (-24.5), I would take the Ducks, but it’s Bama and I don’t think that they can outscore the Bulldogs by 25 points.  I like a closer than expected Bama win.
