The veteran went with 4 tires and the kid went with 2 and that’s how Texas was settled. Johnson’s pass during the GWC left Keselowski looking up the track at the 48 and 7 pts behind in the standings with 2 races left in the Chase. This is a 2 man Chase now and the 5-Time Champ has the edge in every category.
|2012 NASCAR Chase Standings after Race 8 of 10|
|1. Jimmie Johnson||2,339||The 5-Time Champ is starting 24th today, but has 11 top 5’s in his last 12 Phoenix races. Only a catastrophic malfunction or wreck would keep him out of it this week.|
|2. Brad Keselowski||2,332 (-7)||Keselowski qualified 14th on one of his worst tracks and needs to run very well to have a chance to catch JJ. He also needs something to happen to Johnson in the process.|
|3. Clint Bowyer||2,303 (-36)||The only other driver inside of 50 points is Bowyer and he will need a big wreck, Jimmie Johnson retirement or a Keselowski Twitter finger cramp to get in the fight for the title in Homestead.|
Kyle Busch set the pole with a record time and has his JGR teammate Denny Hamlin in 3rd. I love the JGR cars today and think that a win will come from one of them. The real race will be for the Chase and I think that Johnson will finish strong and put Keselowski 15 pts back going into Homestead.
