It was a fairly quite race in Phoenix last weekend and not much happened. That is true if you don’t consider the points leader wrecking on his own and dropping 20 pts back or the Crash+Payback+Crew/Driver Streetfight between Bowyer and Gordon that marred the finish. Kevin Harvick was able to survive all the trouble and get his 1st win of the season, but more importantly Harvick’s win drove up the viewership of our April Fools post about his divorce.
|2012 NASCAR Chase Standings after Race 9 of 10|
|1. Brad Keselowski||2,371||In his 5 career starts at Homestead, BK has an avg finish of 20.2 and that finish may be good enough to get the title. He just needs to run a safe race and keep inside the top 15 at the end and the Chase is his.|
|2. Jimmie Johnson||2,351 (-20)||In 12 starts, JJ has a avg finish of 15. He has never had to push it on the last race of the season, so his avg may be misleading. Jimmie will have to run up front and hope that the Blue Duece has some trouble.|
In picking the winner in Homestead I am going to go with the proven winners on this track. Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart battled it out last year and I think that they will both be in the mix at the end. I would not be surprised to Johnson trying to drive the wheels off at the end, but I think it is safe to start etching Keselowski’s name on the trophy. Though Keselowski is a hell of a driver, I am not a big fan, but I am pumped that racing legend Roger Penske will get his 1st NASCAR Championship.
