Jumbo’s NFL Week 4 Betting Guide

After 3 strong weeks I’m 30-16-2 (66%) and looking for another big week to finish out the 1st quarter of the NFL season.  I missed on the Thursday night game, so 15-0 is out.  Lets get on it.

Ravens -3.5 at Bills 1pm CBS

ravens

The Ravens are the 2nd best team in the AFC and a banged Bills team will be in trouble.  The Ravens are an easy cover.

Cardinals at Buccaneers -3 1pm FOX

I don’t see the Bucs slowing down the Cardinal WR’s and I look for the Cards to give Doug Martin a hard time in the trenches.

Steelers -1 vs. Vikings (London) 1pm CBS

This game is perfect for Wembley Stadium, since the fans are used to games with lots of kicking and very little scoring.  This game is our revenge for all that royal baby coverage.

Giants at Chiefs -4.5 1pm FOX

If the Panthers D could get to Eli 7 times, the Chiefs D should get to him even more.  The Giants are losing this season already and this team may implode.

Colts -8.5 at Jaguars 1pm CBS

The Colts should breeze through their bye week in Jacksonville, and be ready for the Seahawks next week. Continue reading

2013 College Football Primer Week 5

After last week I’m sitting at 22-14 (61%) and I’m looking to put together another strong week.  Unfortunately I’m already starting the week in the hole, after taking Georgia Tech -7 vs. Va Tech so I need to recover quick.  Lets  get on it.

#13 South Carolina -7 at UCF 12pm ABC (South Carolina 28 UCF 25)

US PRESSWIRE Sports

I’m not in the business of picking SEC teams to lose non-conference games, but Central Florida has a chance to get the win at home.  UCF needs get Conner Shaw to turn the ball over, and get their run game going, but they have the horses.  Am I taking the Knights to upset?  Not today.  Just give me those 7 points and I’ll be happy.

#6 LSU at #10Georgia -3 3:30pm CBS (Georgia 44 LSU 41)

The SEC looks to give us “The Game of the Week” each week out and this one will be great.  Both QB’s are playing at a high level, but this game will come down to which team can stop the other team’s All-Star RB.  Gurley and Hill are both beast, and they will give both these defenses hell.  I look for LSU to hold Gurley better than the Dawgs can hold Hill.  LSU to win.

#12 Oklahoma -3.5 at #22 Notre Dame 3:30pm ABC (Oklahoma 35 ND 21)

If OU wants to make people think that the BIG12 can factor into the BCS Title picture, they will have to beat the Irish in South Bend. Notre Dame’s win in Norman last year was the game that got them noticed in the polls and a win today can get them back on track for a BCS bowl.  The Oklahoma talent wins out and ND’s BCS hopes are dashed. Jumbo’s NFL Week 3 Betting Guide

After 2 weeks I’m sitting pretty at 19-12-1 (61%) and I look to improve with a solid Week 3.  I’m off to a good start after hitting the Thursday night Eagles/Chiefs matchup and I’m feeling good about this week.  Here we go.

Texans -2 at Ravens 1pm CBS (Ravens 30 Texans 9) Texans

The Texans have had to struggle for their 2-0 start and could be running into trouble on the road in Baltimore, but I just don’t see it.  The Ravens offense is in trouble and the Texans D will wake up this Sunday.

Giants -1.5 at Panthers 1pm FOX (Panthers 38 Giants 0)

In a battle of winless teams, the Giants should make easy work of the Panthers.  They at least have an offense that can score points and that is one thing the Panthers don’t have.  It won’t be pretty, but the Giants get their first win.

Packers -2 at Bengals 1pm FOX (Bengals 34 Packers 30)

This game makes me wish the NFL could flex the Sunday game each week.  The Bengals should get to Rodgers plenty and make him work for points.  The Packers should also be able to get to Dalton and give him some short clocks in the pocket as well.  This game will be close and that gives the edge to the Packers.

Rams at Cowboys -4 1pm FOX (Cowboys 31 Rams 7)

The Cowboys are the best team in the worst division in football and they will defend their home field vs. the Rams.  Look for Romo and the Dallas WRs to get plenty vs. the Rams weak pass defense and for the Cowboys to win easy.

Browns at Vikings -5.5 1pm CBS Continue reading

2013 College Football Primer Week 4

I went 5-3 last week and that brings my record after 3 weeks to an “In The Black” 16-12.  This week doesn’t have a lot a high-profile games, but I think we are in for a good week.  Let’s get to it.

THURSDAY

#3 Clemson -14.5 at NC State 7:30pm ESPN (Clemson 26 NC State 14)

hot-clemson-tigers-cheerleader-570x713

I’m going to take the recent “Harvest Moon” as a sign to go with Farmer U to cover tonight.  Clemson is by far the better team and has BCS Title dreams, but the Wolfpack have a history of turning those dreams into nightmares on Thursday nights.  I think Boyd and Watkins will give the Tigers too much offense to get upset, but I think State stays inside the 2 TD mark.  I’m also betting with the OVER at 65.5pts.  I know I might be asking for a Clemson win with that, but I can’t lay off it.

FRIDAY

Boise State at #25 Fresno State -3.5 9pm ESPN (Fresno State 41 Boise State 40)

Not much to say on this one, but I’m rolling with the Broncos on the road.

SATURDAY

UNC at Georgia Tech -6.5 12pm ESPN

UNC vs. GT will be the star of the 12pm time slot and I think we will be in for a great game.  While it won’t be as crazy as last year’s 68-50 game, I think that these teams should matchup well.  Renner and the Heels have had a week off and they are my pick to pull the upset and get a win in Atlanta today.

MSU

#24 Michigan State at #21 Notre Dame -7.5 3:30pm NBC

Neither offense is going to find easy sledding in this game, and I expect a low scoring BIG10 style battle.  I think the Spartan D will give Rees and the Irish more problems than the Irish D give the MSU offense and that will be the difference.  Expect a deciding late score and maybe a heart attack today in South Bend.

Tennessee at #18 Florida -14.5 3:30pm CBS

Do I smell an upset today in The Swamp?  Not at all, but I think that Tennessee can stay inside the 2 TD mark vs. the Gators.  The Gators haven’t shown me that they can score vs. a BCS team, and the Florida offense took soon lumps from Miami that should still be in play today.  The Volunteers are coming off a beatdown from Oregon so they welcome this game.  Florida by a TD.

#23 Arizona State at #5 Stanford -6 7pm FOX

The Sun Devils needed help from the PAC12 refs to get out of Tempe ranked, and they will need the same kind of help to get away from my BCS Title pick Stanford.  I look for the Cardinals to bang them around with their pro-style game plan and for this game to be over before the 4th starts.

lsu_9

Auburn at #7 LSU -17 7:45pm ESPN

The LSU Tigers are looking like a legitimate BCS title contender and the Auburn Tigers are starting to look like a SEC team again.  This game will be a solid SEC battle.  I love LSU to win this matchup, but I have trouble with any SEC game hitting a 17 point spread.  The Tigers stay with the Tigers for most of the game, but the Tigers will pull away from the Tigers late.

2013 College Football Primer Week 3

pocketsI had a tough time on the college football betting front last week and I am looking for a big week to recover.  After last week I am sporting an 11-9 record so let’s get started.

#16 UCLA at #23 Nebraska -4.5 12pm ABC

The Bruins beat the Cornhuskers in LA last year and Nebraska is looking to return the favor in Lincoln.  The Bruins got the win by hanging 653 yards on the Huskers, but I don’t think the sledding will be that nice this time around.  Nebraska gets the win at home.

#7 Louisville -12.5 at Kentucky 12pm ESPN

The Wildcats are about the only team left that can give UL at test.  They won’t.  Bridgewater and the Cardinals win big.

Tennessee at #2 Oregon -25.5 3:30pm ABC

Oregon has won 21 straight home games against unranked teams, while the Volunteers have lost 16 in a row and I don’t see those streaks ending.  I do see the undefeated Butch Jones led Vols keeping this game inside the 25 point mark and covering the spread.

Jumbo’s NFL Week 2 Betting Guide

After hitting 9 of the 16 week 1 games I take a shot at week 2 and look to improve on my 56% winning percentage.

Jets +12.5 at Patriots (Patriots 13 Jets 10) 8:25pm NFL NetworkJulian

The Hoodie and Tom Brady vs. Rex Ryan and a rookie QB in Primetime?  I will be all over the Patriots for this one.  I know they had trouble with the Bills and the Jets beat Tampa, but there is no way this game in close.

Rams +6 at Falcons 1pm FOX

The Falcons are stinging from their Week 1 loss to the Saints and are looking to the Rams to gain some momentum.  The Rams are coming off a comeback win over the Cardinals and they have the pass rush to give the Falcons trouble.  Rams keep it close and have a chance for the upset.

Browns +6.5 at Ravens 1pm CBS

A home game vs. the Browns is exactly what the Dr. ordered for the wounded Ravens.

Panthers -3 at Bills 1pm FOX

The Panthers offense should wake up vs. the Bills and their young defense will give the Bills trouble.  I like the Panthers to win big and clearly dominate this game on the road.

Vikings +6 at Bears 1pm FOX

The playoff Vikings are not this team and the Bears are impressive in Trestman’s offense, but I love the Vikings to stay close enough to make it a 4th qtr game.

Redskins +7 at Packers 1pm FOX Continue reading

Jumbo’s Week 1 NFL Betting Results

Week 1 of the 2013 NFL season is in the books and I finished a manageable 9-6-1 on my bets.  I missed on the over and the Cincy road win, but I hit big on the Jets win and the Eagles win.  Not the best week, but I will take it to open the season.  It’s how Meatloaf put it in his famous song [Singing Poorly]  “9 out of 15 with 1 push aint bad”.

manningRavens +7.5 at Broncos (Broncos 49 Ravens 27)

I had this one wrong BIG TIME.  I knew one pass rush would have trouble getting to the QB, I just thought it would be Denver’s.

Patriots -9.5 at Bills 1pm CBS (Patriots 23 Bills 21)

Can these new look Pats win by dbl-digits on the road?  Hell yes they can.

Seahawks -3.5 at Panthers 1pm FOX (Seahawks 12 Panthers 7)

Long road trip and Carolina’s young active D will keep it close.

Bengals +3 at Bears 1pm CBS (Bears 24 Bengals 21)

Taking the road dog to cover and win.

BrownsDolphins Even at Browns 1pm CBS (Dolphins 23 Browns 10)

This game should be fun to watch, as 2 young offenses try to get their legs.  Browns win at home.

Vikings +5 at Lions 1pm FOX (Lions 34 Vikings 24)

2 teams going the opposite way.  The Lions take the next step and win big. Continue reading
