5 Directions the Saints Can Go In the 1st Round (Mocked Up)

Last week I previewed the 5 directions the Saints could go with their 1st round pick, and today I mocked those directions out using http://www.first-pick.com/.   The grades next to the picks are the grade the site gave the choices.

WR

Round 1 Pick 27: Odell Beckham, WR, LSU (A)

Round 2 Pick 26: Marcus Martin, C, Southern California (A)

Round 3 Pick 27: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska (A)

Round 4 Pick 26: Devon Kennard, OLB, Southern California (C-)

Round 5 Pick 27: Jeoffrey Pagan, DE, Alabama (B+)

Round 5 Pick 29: Justin Ellis, DT, Louisiana Tech (A)

Round 6 Pick 26: David Fales, QB, San Jose State (A)

I like this one a lot.  Beckham will be a very good NFL WR, and we get our C/G of the future in Martin in the 2nd.  Jean-Baptiste is a big CB Rob Ryan would love to use.  Fales is the 6th is a steal, and would be Drew’s understudy.

CB

Round 1 Pick 27: Jason Verrett, CB, TCU (B)

Round 2 Pick 26: Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana (B+)

Round 3 Pick 27: C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa (B+)

Round 4 Pick 26: Bruce Ellington, WR, South Carolina (A)

Round 5 Pick 27: Corey Linsley, C, Ohio State (C)

Round 5 Pick 29: Preston Brown, ILB, Louisville (B+)

Round 6 Pick 26: Danny Kistler Jr, OT, Montana (D-)

I would have liked Fuller in the 1st, but he went the pick before.  Verrett is alright, and I love getting Latimer, Fiedorowicz and Ellington.

C

martinRound 1 Pick 27: Marcus Martin, C, Southern California (B+)

Round 2 Pick 26: Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State (A)

Round 3 Pick 27: E.J. Gaines, CB, Missouri (B)

Round 4 Pick 26: Caraun Reid, DT, Princeton (B+)

Round 5 Pick 27: Preston Brown, ILB, Louisville (B)

Round 5 Pick 29: Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers (A)

Round 6 Pick 26: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill (Canada) (A)

Grabbing Martin in the 1st still got us a WR in the 2nd.  I like Gaines and Brown for the defense.  Coleman could be the big bodied WR to move to JG’s TE spot.

OLB/Rush DE

Round 1 Pick 27: Ryan Shazier, OLB, Ohio State (B+)

Round 2 Pick 26: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington (A)

Round 3 Pick 27: Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Boise State (A)

Round 4 Pick 26: Bruce Ellington, WR, South Carolina (A)

Round 5 Pick 27: Ricardo Allen, CB, Purdue (A)

Round 5 Pick 29: Max Bullough, ILB, Michigan State (C-)

Round 6 Pick 26: James Stone, C, Tennessee (D)

This one is my favorite.  Shazier would be a beast for Ryan, and getting Lawrence in the 3rd is huge.  Seferian-Jenkins and Ellington would be great in Payton’s offense.

MosleyC.J. Mosley

Round 1 Pick 18 (NYJ): C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama (B+)

Round 3 Pick 27: Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson (A)

Round 4 Pick 29 (S.F.): Louchiez Purifoy, CB, Florida (A)

Round 5 Pick 27: Corey Linsley, C, Ohio State (C)

Round 5 Pick 29: Deandre Coleman, DT, California (C+)

Round 6 Pick 26: Kevin Norwood, WR, Alabama (A)

Round 7 Pick 30 (S.F.): De’Anthony Thomas, RB, Oregon (A)

Getting Mosley means that the Saints would have to trade up and give up their 2nd round pick.  I didn’t like losing the 2nd, but it worked out decent.  Norwood and Thomas to finish out was very nice.

Check it out and post what you got for your favorite team.

  1. Hello there! This post couldn’t be written any
better! Going through this article reminds me of my previous roommate!

He continually kept preaching about this. I am going to forward this information to him.
Pretty sure he will have a very good read. Many thanks for sharing!
