TSD Post 1st-3rd Rd 2014 Dynasty Rookie Rankings

There were 35 offensive skilled position players picked in the 1st two days of the NFL draft and here’s how I have them ranked prior to the 4th-7th rounds.  I will update the rankings after the draft is complete and throughout the UDFA and mini camp process.

  1. (Evans)

Mike Evans, WR, Tampa Bay- Big WR that will win at the catch point and will get plenty of balls opposite of VJax.

  2. Sammy Watkins, WR, Buffalo- Must/Will become the #1 in Buffalo.
  3. Eric Ebron, TE, Detroit- The Lions will turn Ebron in to the Jimmy Graham of the North.
  4. Cody Latimer, WR, Denver- Will fit in the role Eric Decker left behind, but must wait his turn.
  5. Bishop Sankey, RB, Tennessee- One-cut backs thrive in Kubiak’s system.
  6. Jordan Matthews, WR, Philadelphia- Will catch a ton of balls for Chip Kelly. PPR bonus.
  7. Brandin Cooks, WR, New Orleans- Sonic Boom will thrive in Sean Payton’s offense.
  8. Odell Beckham, WR, New York Giants- If the O-Line keeps Eli up, Beckham will be open.
  9. Tre Mason, RB, St. Louis- He is a better back than Zac Stacy, and will be the lead back soon.
  10. Donte Moncrief, WR, Indianapolis- Andrew Luck’s future #1.
  11. Jeremy Hill, RB, Cincinnati- Will be a TD machine.
  12. (Hyde)

Carlos Hyde, RB, San Francisco- Crowded backfield will take some time to thin out, but Hyde is the best of the bunch.

  13. Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay- Will replace James Jones and will fit nicely.
  14. Allen Robinson, WR, Jacksonville- Not the raw talent that Blackmon is was, but will be Bortles’ #1 soon.
  15. Dri Archer, WR, Pittsburgh- Will be a very good NFL slot WR.
  16. Terrance West, RB, Cleveland- Will have to play behind the oft-injured Ben Tate. Will get his chance soon.
  17. Josh Huff, WR, Philadelphia- Chip Kelly picked an Oregon guy and will know how to use him.
  18. Marqise Lee, WR, Jacksonville- The Jag coaches must have had no trust in their WR core.
  19. Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville- Only QB in the top 20 is in Jacksonville. I must be drunk.
  20. Jace Amaro, TE, New York Jets- The Jets needed a WR, but grabbed a very good TE.
  21. (Landry)

Jarvis Landry, WR, Miami- Will not be out worked. Ever.

  22. Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Carolina- Should be able to get some TDs, but yard will be hard to come by.
  23. John Brown, WR, Arizona- Arizona gets a very solid slot WR.
  24. Charles Sims, RB, Tampa Bay- Will be the #2 behind Doug Martin, and has big upside.
  25. Richard Rodgers, TE, Green Bay- Former WR will replace Finley
  26. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Tampa Bay- Big target will be hard to cover.
  27. Paul Richardson, WR, Seattle- Fast, but way too small.
  28. Derek Carr, QB, Oakland- Has a cannon, but needs to develop some nerves.
  29. (Fiedorowicz)

C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Houston- Is a very solid TE that could grow to a very good TE.

  30. Johnny Manziel, QB, Cleveland- Who will he throw to?
  31. Crockett Gilmore, TE, Baltimore- Eh
  32. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Minnesota- Hate his fit in Minnesota.
  33. Troy Niklas, TE, Arizona- Bruce Arians loves TEs, but he will be used more as a blocker.
  34. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, New England- 3 year plan
  35. Jerick McKinnon, RB, Minnesota- WHY?

2014 Dynasty Rookie Rankings: Wide Receivers

mike-evansThe 2013 NFL Draft was full of game changing of defensive talent that could change an NFL team’s year, but it lacked the top-notch offensive players to shake up your fantasy team. The 2013 draft had 5 offensive skill players drafted in the first round, and only 12 after the first days were over. Compare that to the 11 1st rounders and 9 2nd rounders of the 2012 draft, and it’s easy to see the 2013 draft was short on top end offensive talent. 2014 will be a different story. I see next May’s draft being loaded with talent and there being as many as 15 skill position players going in the 1st and as many as 30-40 being off the board after the 2nd day.  I will update rankings on a fairly regular basis and there could be some big swings as the bowls, combine and draft plays out.

  1. Sammy Watkins, Clemson, 6’1 205 lbs-  I am a sucker for big strong WRs that use their body control and wingspan to win at the catch point, but I will get to those guys later.  Watkins is the one guy that I want to drop down below Mike Evans, but just can’t.  He’s fluid with his routes and catches the ball very quickly.  He moves with purpose after the catch and doesn’t waste time getting downfield.  He should be the first WR off the board in the NFL draft, and will be the #1 pick in most rookie drafts.
  2. Mike Evans, Texas A&M, 6’5 225 lbs-  Evans doesn’t have top WR speed, but he will win almost every battle he is in with a DB.  His catch radius is massive and once the ball is in his area it’s caught.  He plays smart and knows when to cut a route off or to come back to the QB and get the ball.  He’s the kind of WR that will make an inconsistent QB more consistent (Are you listening NY Jets?).  He could go before Watkins in the NFL Draft and will be a top 3 rookie pick in dynasty drafts.
  3. Kelvin Benjamin, FSU, 6’5 235 lbs-  Benjamin is moving up boards and starting to get noticed as a future NFL stud.  He compares to Evans, but he is a bit more raw.  He gives me a Plaxico Burress vibe when I watch him, and could become a red zone force.
  4. Allen Robinson, Penn State, 6’3 210 lbs-  Has shown great skills in a pro-style offense and helped ease the transition of a freshman QB at Penn State.  Solid body control and hands, lacks elite speed.   Continue reading

Top 50 Fantasy Football Rookies For 2013

Montee BallThe draft is over and it’s time to start digging through the rookie class of 2013 for fantasy gems.  To help you out, I’ve done some of the leg work for you.  If you are in a re-draft league, you won’t need to use this entire list, but if you are in a dynasty league, you need to know who all these guys are.

1 Montee Ball, RB DEN Nothing but busted parts sits in his way of starting.  3-down star.
2 Le’Veon Bell, RB PIT Had some bad performances vs. tough Ds at MSU, but has the tools to be the Steelers’ every down back.
3 Tavon Austin, WR STL Pure Electric Playmaking
4 Eddie Lacy, RB GB Surgeries and Franklin dropped him from the top.
5 Giovani Bernard, RB CIN Bernard has the speed to make it, but does he have the size?
6 Keenan Allen, WR SD Phillip Rivers gets his replacement for VJ.
7 Aaron Dobson, WR NE Meet Tom Brady’s new #1 WR
8 Cordarrelle Patterson, WR MIN Can he be the playmaker the Vikings need?
9 DeAndre Hopkins, WR HOU Andre Johnson gets his wish and gets some help.  Hopkins will beat single coverage more times   than not.
10 E.J. Manuel, QB BUF The Bills surprised on draft day, but Manuel WILL BE the best QB of   this draft.
11 Johnathan Franklin, RB GB Lightning to Lacy’s thunder.    Will get yards, but lose TDs to Lacy.
12 Joseph Randle, RB DAL Best RB in Dallas will be the starter soon.
13 Matt Barkley, QB PHI Barkley is a better fit than Vick in Kelly’s offense and he may be the week 1 starter.
14 Zac Stacy, RB STL I love this guy and he is on the rise.
15 Marquise Wheaton, WR PIT Has the tools and skills to replace Mike Wallace. Continue reading

The Morning Dump: 4/11/13

I hope I can get much work done today with the Masters streaming in my office.

untitledKobe scores 47 as the Lakers beat the Blazers to move 1 game up on the Jazz for the 8th spot.  They have 3 games left to lock it up.

Brady Quinn is the backup QB in Seattle and Troy Smith still has no job.  What do you think Bish?

Richard Sherman told the Vancouver Sun that half the league is on Adderall.

Barca survives with a wounded Messi and moves on to the Champions League semis.  They will need him at full strength to win it all.

The severed head of a goat was delivered to Wrigley Field yesterday.  It was addressed to team owner Tom Ricketts and the police were brought in to inspect.

Eric Fisher is starting to get some run as the #1 pick in the 2013 draft.

The Morning Dump: 3/25/13

imagesKyle Busch wins in Fontana as Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin wreck fighting for the win.  Denny is still in the hospital (back) and this Logano/Hamlin feud is not going away.

Tony Stewart went after Logano after the race for doing exactly what Stewart would have done.  I like the new “I’m standing up for myself” Logano.

FGCU is this first #15 seed to ever make the Sweet 16 and “Dunk City” is becoming the nation’s favorite team.

hicksNew Minnesota Twins center fielder, Aaron Hicks is going to be a MVP very soon.  Mark it down.

The Ravens have finally made a move that helps their team and signed Elvis Dumervil.  Some Ravens players are even using the dreaded “Dream Team” line.

The WBC has stepped up and will pay the salaries of the players injured in the WBC Classic while they are out.  Surprising move to say the least.

Only 6 days away from Sunday night’s MLB opener of the Rangers vs. Astros.

Tiger Woods has to wait to today to get a win at Bay Hill due to weather scratching Sunday’s round.

The Morning Dump: 3/22/13

Day 1 of the NCAA tourney is in the books and Harvard pulled off the 14 over 3 upset that Davidson gave away.  Who’s bracket had Harvard?  This guy!

Plenty of great games today and look for Ole Miss to get today’s biggest upset win.

qsW3y3vTiger Woods shot an opening round 69 at Bay Hill and some old man groped up Kate Upton.

The Denver Nuggets had to rally from 8 down with 2 minutes left to do it, but they got their 14th straight win last night.

The Duper family takes video games very serious.  Dolphin legend Mark Duper has been arrested for beating his 17-year-old son unconscious in a fight over video games.

Martin Brodeur is the greatest offensive goalie in NHL history.

untitledFormer Titans cheerleader, Elizabeth Gardner was arrested for trying to perform oral sex on a 12-year-old boy at a party.  She claimed that she mistook him for a man she saw at the party.  How many teenage boys in Tennessee are sending this woman an invite to their birthday party now?

The Morning Dump: 3/21/13

imagesThere are no better four days in sports than the next four.  There is just something about the 1st 2 rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

The Bucknell vs. Butler game could be the matchup of the day.  Upset picks to watch:  Harvard and St. Mary’s

The Heat spot the Cavs 27 points with 18 minutes to play and come back to win their 24th straight.  I think they will grab the record and they could extend it to 40 games.  Game 30 @ San Antonio will be a test.

The NFL got rid of one stupid rule (Tuck!) and gave us a new stupid rule (Helmet!).

untitledI don’t get the fuss about Urlacher.  Injury prone and eroding skills shouldn’t get a guaranteed offer.

Hey, CUSE!  That knock on the door is the NCAA.

The Dodgers may be without Hanley Ramirez for 2 months after he broke a finger in the WBC championship.

South Dakota State gear is a hot commodity for Michigan State fans for SDSU upcoming game with Michigan.
