The Morning Dump: 3/18/13

It’s the day after St. Patty’s Day and the gutters are overrun with green puke and the brackets are getting filled.  I love tournament time.

untitledMy Final 4 is Mich St., Arizona, Florida and Indiana.  (That is not set in stone and my change 20 more times before my bracket is done.)

Let’s talk about brackets.  I hate more than anything when people do multiple brackets.  I do one bracket and submit it in any bracket pool I want to enter and that is how it should be done.  No man should ever say “I called that Duke upset in one of my brackets.” or “I need to check my brackets and see how I did in them.”.  BE A MAN AND DON’T DO MUTIPLE BRACKETS!

GSP put it on Nick Diaz at UFC 158, but Diaz’s admition that he has never paid taxes in the post-fight presser has made the most news.

The Miami Heat’s win streak is at 22 games and I think that the Lakers 33 game win streak is in jeopardy if they can get by the Celtics tonight.

Speaking of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek is stepping down and I hope they give The Jumbo a call.

My Pens vs. Blackhawks Stanley Cup Final prediction is still looking good.

imagesKasey Kahne took an exciting win in Bristol yesterday.  I don’t think the Hamlin/Logano fued will die down anytime soon.

2 weeks until opening day of the 2013 MLB season and I can’t wait.

The Morning Dump: 01/22/13

Why does Chip Kelly stand with his hands inside his jeans and why the hell would the Eagles hire Pat Shurmur as their OC?

Tim Brown is accusing Bill Callahan of throwing Super Bowl XXXVII because of his relationship with Jon Gruden and his hatred of the Raiders.

Chael Sonnen wants to introduce Victor Belfort to Jesus.  I love me some Sonnen and I can’t wait until season 17 of TUF starts tonight.

Kings defenseman, Matt Greene suffered a back injury in the Kings loss to the Blackhawks and appears to be gone for the season.

imagesCAKSGJGEWhy can’t Michael Bourn get a job?  The only remaining big name free agent is still unsigned.

The NCAA is about to come down on Missouri B-Ball Coach Frank Haith in connection with his days in Miami and his connection to Nevin Shapiro.

The “Honey Badger” Tyrann Mathieu showed up to the Senior Bowl with the hopes of talking to NFL personnel.  Mathieu is looking for a chance to show he can be trusted again.

imagesCAKC1SD7The final list of the 2013 top 100 college football recruits in the nation.  Is Robert Nkemdiche going to Ole Miss or can Les Miles steal him away?

The Morning Dump: 11/27/12

I have never been more sad to see the decline of a coaching career than I have to see Andy Reid’s fall in Philly.  Can Philly fire him or will he just resign?

“Bobcats finish with 69 points, shoot 23-79 from the field. In March of 1990, Owner MJ drops 69 while shooting 23-37.”- Rich Levine.  Just when I was ready to praise the Bobcats, they give me last night’s game.

San Francisco General Hospital is asking for $1.2m from the Los Angeles Dodgers for the medical treatment of Brian Stow.  It has been over a year and a half since Giant’s fan Brian Stow was beaten into a coma outside Dodger Stadium.

What happens when you can’t outscore the Jacksonville Jaguars?  You get fired.  The bad news is that Titans OC Chris Palmer has been let go.  The good news is he will not have to watch the Titans play anymore.

The Chicago Cubs have hired Rob Deer as a hitting coach.  How can a guy with a .220 career batting average get a job as a hitting coach?  Only for the Cubs.

Without P.J. Hairston UNC will have trouble pulling the upset at Indiana tonight.

Lionel Messi scored 2 goals as Barca continued its roll in the Spanish League.  Barcelona is 12-0-1 this year and easily in front of the league.

UFC’s Dennis Hallman lost his home on Thanksgiving to a fire and the MMA community is stepping up to help.

The Morning Dump: 11/26/12

The Copeland’s are back home and there is no more food, Jack Daniels or Busch beer left in the mountains of Fancy Gap, VA.  I already miss it.

Notre Dame finished off their perfect regular season and are all set to lose to Alabama in the BCS title game on January 7th.  The Irish will be dogs vs. the Tide, but I wouldn’t bet against them.  They have been overlooked all year.

Crazy day in the NFL yesterday.  Sprinklers just turned on during the 3rd qtr of the Dolphins/Seahawks game (Turf guys girlfriend sat on the button), Fireman Ed resigns his post as Jets superfan (Who is going to lead them in the J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS chant? Crackhead Keith?) and Martellus Bennett caught a fan who fell over the 15 ft railing after the game last night (How many fantasy points in that Richard?).

How long until the NFL makes it a rule that you can’t lose your job because of injury?  I bet Alex Smith will not report his next concussion.

I think that Larry Fedoria will leave UNC for one of the open SEC jobs.  Either Auburn or Arkansas.  David Cutcliffe is going to Tennessee.

NC State fans got their wish and the Pack let Tom O’Brien go.  The local fans never warmed to his even-tempered style and his inability to pull NC State out of the middle of the ACC pack proved his downfall. Continue reading

The Morning Dump: 11/16/12

Miguel Cabrera (AL) and Buster Posey (NL) won their first MVP awards yesterday.  Mike Trout had a great season, but Cabrera’s Triple Crown deserved the prize.  Buster got the MVP, but I wanted to see Ryan Braun get it after a season that was better than his MVP season a year before.

How do you make a defense built on overpriced free agents look good?  Play Miami.  The Bills new D finally showed up and held the Dolphins to 184 yards total offense.

Chipper Jones thinks Oswald acted alone and he wants everyone to know.  Did Chipper just watch JFK for the first time?

The Knicks are 6-0 and the ’72 Lakers are worried their 33 game win streak record will fall.  In another note, 7 New York Knicks players were alive when the Lakers set that record.

It is not wise to break up with Chamique Holdsclaw.

Georges St-Pierre makes his return this week against Carlos Condit in Montreal at UFC154.  This will be GSP’s first fight in more than 19 months due to a knee injury.  Check out SI’s The Counterpunch’s predictions of the event.

#80’s reaction is a must watch.

The Morning Dump: 10/24/12

Ozzie Guillen is out as Miami Marlins’ manager just in time to travel to Cuba to stand vigil for the ailing Fidel Castro.

Sweep the leg, Suh!  Why is this an issue?

Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk was arrested for DUI after he was found asleep parked in a cornfield in Illinois.  Did the police see him driving?  Did he drive into the cornfield drunk?  Was he just parking in a cornfield drinking?  I want more details.

The UFC’s Dana White looks to be bringing a female division to the UFC to get in on the Ronda Rousey train.

As a father of 2 girls, the ‘Fantasy Slut League’ scares the hell out of me.  As a former teenage boy, the ‘Fantasy Slut League’ is a pretty impressive show of teenage sex drive ingenuity.

Still no NHL.

If the Bobcats are going to keep from breaking their own losing season record, they are going to need more from Michael Kidd-Gilchrist than 25% shooting nights.

Dale Jr. has been cleared to return to racing this weekend at Martinsville, but I think he should sit out the rest of the season.  Though he could race and just sue NASCAR when his career is over.

The Morning Dump: 10/18/12

Late to the Dump today , due to Dads and Donuts at my daughters school.

The A-Rod/Yankee marriage looks to be all but buried.  The Yankees are ready to move on from the former star and eat about $100m just to get him off the roster.  It looks like A-Rod is ready to let it happen.  The Marlins and the Angels look to be the early leaders.

The Yankees got one more day, thanks to the rain, but the Tigers will close it out today.

The Cards pulled a rain delayed win from the Giants and have a 2-1 lead.

The Jon Jones/Chael Sonnen Season of TUF will be epic.  I can’t wait to check it out.

With her Q score in a free fall, Danica Patrick is very close to getting dropped from Go Daddy.  The web domain’s new ad agency will have the power to drop the overrated and underperforming Patrick from it’s advertising lineup.

The ‘Cancer Shield’ is down for Lance Armstrong.

Give me the Seahawks over the 49ers tonight.

Note to all political candidates.  Make sure you don’t mix up the names of the 2 quaterbacks of the NFL team you visit in a swing state.

The Morning Dump: 10/10/12

A little late to the dump this morning, but here it is.

RIP Alex Karras.  I’m going to watch Blazing Saddles tonight.

Big day for the MLB playoffs with all 4 games going on.  I look for the Tigers and Reds to close out and for the Cards and Yankees to take hold of their series.  STL/WASH 1:07p, SF/CIN 4:07p, BAL/NYY 7:37p, DET/OAK 9:37p all on TBS

Roger Goodell reissued the Saints bounty suspensions with minimal changes.  I think all of this is meaningless and uneventful until the judge pulls Goodell on the stand to testify and produce evidence.

LSU isn’t blaming their QB, their offensive line or their defensive line for their loss to Florida last weekend.  They are blaming the heat.  I find it hard to believe that a Louisiana team had trouble with the Florida weather and it makes me worry about LSU Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

Stephan Bonner is going to give us his best Rocky Balboa impression against Anderson Silva on Saturday night at UFC 153 in Brazil.  I fighter with no chance and nothing to lose is the most dangerous thing in the ring.

I look for Josh Hamilton to end up back in Cincinnati for next season.  No facts yet, but just a hunch.

An overly excited Mitt Romney supporter delayed the start of the Cardinals/Nationals game by running across the field with a Romney sign.  He was tased by the pro-Obama security force.
